Billy Martin was born in NYC in 1963. In the late 1970's, he devoted himself to music and dove into Manhattan’s thriving,
eclectic musical landscape.
From the roots of the downtown scene he emerged with Medeski Martin and Wood, bridging the harmonic complexity of jazz, the conversational fluency of free improvisation, and the groove and swagger of classic R&B and funk.

Tigran created a graceful album that feels like the story of the universe is unfolding in front of you. Equally gripping and carefree, it's a solid and fulfilling experience. Pacing's pretty neat, plus the way musicians play brings another layer of stylish personality and class. Compositions are astoundingly beautiful and can be super catchy or quite melancholic, showing how much of a pristine vibe the range of emotions on this project is. Those strong melodies regularly come back in my mind.

Very happy a colleague recommended Mdou Moctar to me after I discovered & fell in love with Tinariwen and this new (to me) desert blues sound! Mdou Moctar inject more of a psychedelic sensibility into their music rather than Tinariwen's drone, making it flavorfully distinctive, while still carrying that shining, twanging, sun-drenched sound we all love about Saharan desert rock. Love the grooving rhythms and the alternately snappy clean or drowned-in-effects guitar melodies. Excellent work!

I was brought here after listening to a live performance of Makaya's on you tube. I instantly loved the song Holy Lands so much that I had to see if the album version was the same rendition as the live one. Then I listened to the whole album! Universal Beings is a just a groove... It's a mix of traditional and something new, very nice.
